Organizational culture can undoubtedly control the behaviors and thoughts of individuals in the criminal justice system (law enforcement officers, those working in correction centers and the judicial system).  For instance, those working in correction academies and law enforcement officers are nurtured with a paramilitary mindset. Therefore, organizational culture will inspire them to behave and think in highly dominant and superior ways.

According to Farnese et al. (2016), socialization has three major stages namely: anticipatory, informal and formal. Anticipatory socialization happens just before beginning a job whereby, an individual anticipates the forthcoming demands in their employment in the future. Informal socialization is the process on how someone conforms to occupational roles and interacts with the management, clients and co-workers (Farnese et al., 2016). Lastly, formal socialization happens in formal settings such as in police academies during formal training, immediately after beginning a new career.Socialization Processes and Practical Reflection Essay.

Correction officers yet to enter into active practice are less likely to understand the roles and responsibilities related to their work. Initially, they might be at a stand-off due to the expectations that they are entering a very hostile environment. This can persist in the entire anticipatory and formal socialization stages. However, as soon as they come to close contact with offenders and learn that they are not as violent as expected and continue spending more time in an institution, informal socialization sets in where they become friendlier with inmates.Socialization Processes and Practical Reflection Essay.

I would handle conflict between co-workers using the collaboration approach. In this strategy, both conflicting parties would be listened to. Creative solutions on how best to resolve the conflict would be sought from them before a collaborative decision-making. In case the conflict is not resolved at the most basic level, involving senior management according to the chain of command would be important. Epitropaki et al. (2017) define leadership as the act of leading an organization, an institution or a group of people. In comparison, followership is the readiness to collaborate in working towards the attainment of shared goals by revealing a high level of teamwork. In this position, I would diligently perform assigned duties and effectively execute orders from seniors. At all times, I would behave, decide and act professionally and be a role model who can be emulated by co-workers.Socialization Processes and Practical Reflection Essay.
