What is a critique? Simply stated, a critique is a critical analysis undertaken for some purpose. Nurses critique research for three main reasons: to improve their practice, to broaden their understanding, and to provide a base for the conduct of a study. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

When the purpose is to improve practice, nurses must give special consideration to questions such as these:

· Are the research findings appropriate to my practice setting and situation?

· What further research or pilot studies need to be done, if any, before incorporating findings into practice to assure both safety and effectiveness?

· How might a proposed change in practice trigger changes in other aspects of practice? NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

To help you synthesize your learning throughout this course and prepare you to utilize research in your practice, you will be critiquing a qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-methods research study of your choice.

QUALITATIVE RESEARCH CRITIQUE

1. Research Issue and Purpose

What is the research question or issue of the referenced study? What is its purpose? (Sometimes ONLY the purpose is stated clearly and the question must be inferred from the introductory discussion of the purpose.)

2. Researcher Pre-understandings

Does the article include a discussion of the researcher’s pre-understandings? What does the article disclose about the researcher’s professional and personal perspectives on the research problem? NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

3. Literature Review

What is the quality of the literature review? Is the literature review current, relevant? Is there evidence that the author critiqued the literature or merely reported it without critique? Is there an integrated summary of the current knowledge base regarding the research problem, or does the literature review contain opinion or anecdotal articles without any synthesis or summary of the whole? (Sometimes the literature review is incorporated into the introductory section without being explicitly identified.) NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

4. Theoretical or Conceptual Framework

Is a theoretical or conceptual framework identified? If so, what is it? Is it a nursing framework or one drawn from another discipline? (Sometimes there is no explicitly identified theoretical or conceptual framework; in addition, many “nursing” research studies draw on a “borrowed” framework, e.g., stress, medical pathology, etc.) NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

5. Participants

Who were the participants? Is the setting or study group adequately described? Is the setting appropriate for the research question? What type of sampling strategy was used? Was it appropriate? Was the sample size adequate? Did the researcher stipulate that information redundancy was achieved? NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

6. Protection of Human Research Participants

What steps were taken to protect human research subjects?

7. Research Design

What was the design of the study? If the design was modeled from previous research or pilot studies, please describe. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

8. Data Collection/Generation Methods

What methods were used for data collection/generation? Was triangulation used?

9. Credibility

Were the generated data credible? Explain your reasons.

10. Data Analysis

What methods were used for data analysis? What evidence was provided that the researcher’s analysis was accurate and replicable? NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

11. Findings

What were the findings?

12. Discussion of Findings

Was the discussion of findings related to the framework? Were those the expected findings? Were they consistent with previous studies? Were serendipitous (i.e., accidental) findings described? NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

13. Limitations

Did the researcher report limitations of the study? (Limitations are acknowledgments of internal characteristics of the study that may help explain insignificant and other unexpected findings, and more importantly, indicate those groups to whom the findings CANNOT be generalized or applied. It is a fact that all studies must be limited in some way; not all of the issues involved in a problem situation can be studied all at once.) NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

14. Implications

Are the conclusions and implications drawn by the author warranted by the study findings? (Sometimes researchers will seem to ignore findings that don’t confirm their expectations as they interpret the meaning of their study findings.) NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

15. Recommendations

Does the author offer legitimate recommendations for further research? Is the description of the study sufficiently clear and complete to allow replication of the study? (Sometimes researchers’ recommendations seem to come from “left field” rather than following obviously from the discussion of findings. If a research problem is truly significant, the results need to be confirmed with additional research; in addition, if a reader wishes to design a study using a different sample or correcting flaws in the original study, a complete description is necessary.) NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

16. Research Utilization in Your Practice

How might this research inform your practice? Are the research findings appropriate to your practice setting and situation? What further research or pilot studies need to be done, if any, before incorporating findings into practice to assure both safety and effectiveness? How might the utilization of this research trigger changes in other aspects of practice? NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

In Part 3 of the Course Project, you consider how the evidence you gathered during Part 2 can be translated into nursing practice.

(Link for part 1 - https://www.homeworkmarket.com/content/nurs-5052nurs-6052-essentials-evidence-based-practice-course-project-part-1-grading-rubic-an)

Now that you have located available research on your PICOT question, you will examine what the research indicates about nursing practices. Connecting research evidence and findings to actual decisions and tasks that nurses complete in their daily practice is essentially what evidence-based practice is all about. This final component of the Course Project asks you to translate the evidence and data from your literature review into authentic practices that can be adopted to improve health care outcomes. In addition, you will also consider possible methods and strategies for disseminating evidence-based practices to your colleagues and to the broader health care field. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

To prepare:

Consider Parts 1 and 2 of your Course Project. How does the research address your PICOT question?

With your PICOT question in mind, identify at least one nursing practice that is supported by the evidence in two or more of the articles from your literature review. Consider what the evidence indicates about how this practice contributes to better outcomes.

Explore possible consequences of failing to adopt the evidence-based practice that you identified.

Consider how you would disseminate information about this evidence-based practice throughout your organization or practice setting. How would you communicate the importance of the practice? NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

To complete:

In a 3- to 4-page paper:

Restate your PICOT question and its significance to nursing practice.

Summarize the findings from the articles you selected for your literature review. Describe at least one nursing practice that is supported by the evidence in the articles. Justify your response with specific references to at least 2 of the articles. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

Explain how the evidence-based practice that you identified contributes to better outcomes. In addition, identify potential negative outcomes that could result from failing to use the evidence-based practice.

Outline the strategy for disseminating the evidence-based practice that you identified throughout your practice setting. Explain how you would communicate the importance of the practice to your colleagues. Describe how you would move from disseminating the information to implementing the evidence-based practice within your organization. How would you address concerns and opposition to the change in practice?

This part of the Course Project is due. It should be combined with the other two components of the Course Project and turned in as your Portfolio Assignment for this course. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

Note: In addition, include a 1-page summary of your project.

You will combine Parts 1, 2, and 3 of your Course Project (assigned in Weeks 2, 4, and 8 respectively) into one cohesive and cogent paper.

For this final iteration, you will need to:

Submit your paper to Grammarly and SafeAssign through the Walden Writing Center. Based on the Grammarly and SafeAssign reports, revise your paper as necessary.

Reminder: The School of Nursing requires that all papers submitted include a title page, introduction, summary, and references. The School of Nursing Sample Paper provided at the Walden Writing Center provides an example of those required elements (available from the Walden University website found in this week’s Learning Resources). All papers submitted must use this formatting. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

Chapter 9, “Evaluation of Research Instruments and Experimental Conditions”

One of the most challenging aspects of EBP is to actually identify the answerable question.

—Karen Sue Davies

Formulating a question that targets the goal of your research is a challenging but essential task. The question plays a crucial role in all other aspects of the research, including the determination of the research design and theoretical perspective to be applied, which data will be collected, and which tools will be used for analysis. It is therefore essential to take the time to ensure that the research question addresses what you actually want to study. Doing so will increase your likelihood of obtaining meaningful results. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

In this first component of the Course Project, you formulate questions to address a particular nursing issue or problem. You use the PICOT model—patient/population, intervention/issue, comparison, and outcome—outlined in the Learning Resources to design your questions.

To prepare:

Review the article, “Formulating the Evidence Based Practice Question: A Review of the Frameworks,” found in the Learning Resources for this week. Focus on the PICOT model for guiding the development of research questions.

Review the section beginning on page 71 of the course text, titled, “Developing and Refining Research Problems” in the course text, which focuses on analyzing the feasibility of a research problem.

Reflect on an issue or problem that you have noticed in your nursing practice. Consider the significance of this issue or problem.

Generate at least five questions that relate to the issue which you have identified. Use the criteria in your course text to select one question that would be most appropriate in terms of significance, feasibility, and interest. Be prepared to explain your rationale. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

Formulate a preliminary PICO question—one that is answerable—based on your analysis. What are the PICO variables (patient/population, intervention/issue, comparison, and outcome) for this question?

Note: Not all of these variables may be appropriate to every question. Be sure to analyze which are and are not relevant to your specific question.

Using the PICOT variables that you determined for your question, develop a list of at least 10 keywords that could be used when conducting a literature search to investigate current research pertaining to the question. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

To complete:

Write a 3- to 4-page paper that includes the following:

A summary of your area of interest, an identification of the problem that you have selected, and an explanation of the significance of this problem for nursing practice

The 5 questions you have generated and a description of how you analyzed them for feasibility

Your preliminary PICOT question and a description of each PICOT variable relevant to your question

At least 10 possible keywords that could be used when conducting a literature search for your PICOT question and a rationale for your selections

Week 6: Quantitative Research Designs—Part 2
Reflect on the following scenarios:
Wanda has been involved in a research study of the causes of tooth decay in elementary school children. Twenty-five percent of the students in the free breakfast program at a local school have been screened by a local dental hygienist. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers. The dental hygienist finds an average of 3.5 cavities per student. The same dental hygienist recently screened 25% of the students in a school with no free breakfast program, and found an average of only 1.5 cavities per student. Wanda concludes that the breakfast served to students is the cause of higher tooth decay. Do you agree with Wanda? Can you think of other causes for the higher number of cavities among the students from the school with free breakfast?
Jerry is conducting a phone survey to determine public opinions on Medicaid reform. In order to get a random sample, Jerry decides to call the tenth number on the second column of every fifth page of the phone book. He also decides to stop sampling when he has completed 50 surveys. After reaching the target number, Jerry begins to analyze the data he has gathered and is surprised to find that opposition to reform is running about 18% higher than the national average. He is at a quandary to explain this significant difference in numbers. What are some reasons you can think of for the higher rate of opposition? NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.
As you consider these scenarios, you may note issues or problems related to the validity of the research and conclusions. This week, you assess validity in quantitative research. You are introduced to the different types of validity and why they are important to consider when evaluating evidence and research studies. You also examine common threats to validity and consider how to minimize those threats. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

Discussion: Validity in Quantitative Research Designs
Validity in research refers to the extent researchers can be confident that the cause and effect they identify in their research are in fact causal relationships. If there is low validity in a study, it usually means that the research design is flawed and the results will be of little or no value. Four different aspects of validity should be considered when reviewing a research design: statistical conclusion validity, internal validity, construct validity, and external validity. In this Discussion, you consider the importance of each of these aspects in judging the validity of quantitative research. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.
To prepare:
Review the information in Chapter 10 of the course text on rigor and validity.
Read the method section of one of the following quasi-experimental studies (also located in this week's Learning Resources). Identify at least one potential concern that could be raised about the study's internal validity.

Consider strategies that could be used to strengthen the study's internal validity and how this would impact the three other types of validity. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.
Think about the consequences of an advanced practice nurse neglecting to consider the validity of a research study when reviewing the research for potential use in developing an evidence-based practice.
By Day 3
Post the title of the study that you selected and your analysis of the potential concerns that could be raised about the study's internal validity. Propose recommendations to strengthen the internal validity and assess the effect your changes could have with regard to the other three types of validity. Discuss the dangers of failing to consider the validity of a research study. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.
Read a selection of your colleagues' responses.
By Day 6
Respond to at least two of your colleagues in one or more of the following ways:
Ask a probing question, substantiated with additional background information, and evidence. Share an insight from having read your colleagues' postings, synthesizing the information to provide new perspectives.
Offer and support an alternative perspective using readings from the classroom or from your own review of the literature in the Walden Library.
Validate an idea with your own experience and additional sources.
Make a suggestion based on additional evidence drawn from readings or after synthesizing multiple postings.
Expand on your colleagues' postings by providing additional insights or contrasting perspectives based on readings and evidence.

Select a health topic of interest to you that is relevant to your current area of practice. The topic may be your Course Portfolio Project or a different topic of your choice.
Using the Walden Library, locate two articles in scholarly journals that deal with your portfolio topic: 1) Select one article that utilizes a quantitative research design and 2) select a second article that utilizes either a qualitative OR a mixed methods design. These need to be single studies not systematic or integrative reviews (including meta-analysis and metasynthesis). NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers. You may use research articles from your reference list. If you cannot find these two types of research on your portfolio topic, you may choose another topic.
Locate the following documents in this week's Learning Resources to access the appropriate templates, which will guide your critique of each article:
Critique Template for a Qualitative Study
Critique Template for a Quantitative Study
Critique Template for a Mixed-Methods Study
Consider the fields in the templates as you review the information in each article. Begin to draft a paper in which you analyze the two research approaches as indicated below. Reflect on the overall value of both quantitative and qualitative research. If someone were to say to you, “Qualitative research is not real science,” how would you respond?
To complete this Assignment:
Complete the two critiques using the appropriate templates.
Write a 2- to 3-page paper that addresses the following:
Contrast the types of information that you gained from examining the two different research approaches in the articles that you selected. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.
Describe the general advantages and disadvantages of the two research approaches featured in the articles. Use examples from the articles for support.
Formulate a response to the claim that qualitative research is not real science. Highlight the general insights that both quantitative and qualitative studies can provide to researchers. Support your response with references
WRITTEN
Evaluating Quantitative, Qualitative or Mixed Research Methodologies An Overview As the quest for scientifically evidenced based knowledge to improve outcomes continue to advance, results of study can be modified if researchers utilize an erroneous system or strategy to answer their research question. It is vital for nurses to evaluate the article and ascertain the validity of the study prior to applying the findings into practice. The goal of this author is to review the knowledge conferred within the analysis of a quantitative and a qualitative study. Including, the pros and consequences of utilizing respective processes and weigh in on the remunerations of both methodology's in study. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.
2 In this Assignment, the author will attempt to evaluate quantitative and Qualitative research methods of conducting a study, the article that the writer chose would be the research study on Central Line Associated Blood Stream Infections. The quantitative methodology, is focused on the effect of antimicrobial peripherally inserted central catheter on central Line-Associated Bloodstream infections in a Hospital Environment, whereas the qualitative study is focused on disparities in risk perceptions: a qualitative study is about facilitating central line associated bloodstream infection prevention. Both studies focused on central line Association blood stream infections, the pros and cons of individual studies will be addressed as well as the diverse methods to the studies. Formats on each study methodology also be addressed. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.
2 Quantitative research is generally firmly associated with positivism (Polit and Beck), in quantitative research the numerical data is acquired from a formal measurement and is analyzed statistically. While qualitative research is associated with constructivist inquiry (Polit & Beck).
Data gathered from each Methodology An ample amount of data was gathered from both research methodologies. 2 Central line associated blood stream infections (CLABSI) is a major basis for thousands of deaths per year and accumulating to billions of dollars in additional costs to U.S. health care system (CDC, N/D). Sadly enough, these infections are avoidable, if only health care professionals as custodians of peoples' health, employ appropriate care and practice.
The two articles provided an in-depth understanding of Central line diseases, utilizing diverse data and methodologies. 2 The quantitative research is about the measures to take in the counteractive action of Central line related infections; the study is to expose the impact of an antimicrobial peripherally inserted central catheter on central line associated bloodstream infections, and was conducted in the hospital settings using real patients to determine the effect of antimicrobial catheter on CLABSI. Authentic patients were engaged in practice and prove the result of the study, it was a hand on experimental study. The approach was a quasi-experimental, data was collected on two different patients, one part is the interventional group and the second was the non-interventional group, this study shows a statistically significant decrease in the rate of CLABSI (Rutkoff G 2014). The study was an initial step towards using nursing research to propose a change to current central line infection prevention strategies (Rutkoff 2014).
The second analysis is the qualitative study that was conducted to compare the perceptions of infection control professionals(ICP) and frontline staff, the result of this study was based on the observation and experiences of people, it was not an experimental study, multiple perceptions were used to determine the result of the study. 3 The experiment was conducted with key mole interviews at 8 hospitals that participated in the agency for healthcare research and quality CLABSI prevention initiative. 2 Interview statistics were analyzed using 50 frontline nurses and 26 ICPs' to identify mutual factors related to program facilitators and challenges (Hefner J. 2014). The result could not be absolutely accurate since it was based on perceptions, feelings and thoughts of the patients.
Pros and Cons of research Methodologies Both qualitative and quantitative research are utilized as a part of focusses all through many disciplines. Qualitative and quantitative approaches are imbibed in Researches in many facets of life, both methods, like everything else, have their pros and cons, which is contingent on the focus and goal of the investigators. Qualitative research focuses largely on the comprehensive and thorough accounts of events while quantitative research focuses on creating numerical representations to clarify procedures.
2 On the article: the influence of an antimicrobial peripherally inserted central catheter on central line associated bloodstream infections in a hospital environment, which is a quantitative research, there are various advantages and disadvantages to the approach of this study. The study is designed to enable the researcher avoid ethical issues associated with withholding a treatment from the patients while using a current intervention to evaluate the effect of the antimicrobial picc on CLABSI incidence (Rutkoff G 2014). This approach is the best one when statistics is used to determine the effect of an intervention and draw conclusion about its effects (Rutkoff G 2014). With this approach the use of randomized study with coexisting controls would have been more scientifically viable. The disadvantage of the evaluation method would be the boundaries of the quasi-experimental design, the quasi-experimental methodology could only deliver evidence of probability and the study's generalizability is questionable due to the small size (Rutfoff, G 2014). bias and statistical tests were used to compare demographic characteristics (Rutkoff G 2014). Qualitative research is all about how people feel about a research Analysis. In the qualitative research the CLABSI initiatives are in place and the study sought to observe the staffs' perceptions. The pro of this study is that it will illustrate why the initiative was either an accomplishment or a catastrophe. 2 The article points out that in the study, CLABSI lessening plans that encompassed frontline staff in design and execution had a higher success rate. The qualitative research will highlight the barricades of the interposition giving the researcher a way to intensify the probabilities of accomplishment. 2 The article demonstrations challenges like the need for capitals to carry out the experiment that would not be visible in a quantitative research. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.
Qualitative research is all about how people experience a research study. In the qualitative research the CLABSI initiatives are in place and this study aimed at observing the staffs' perceptions. 2 The advantage of this research is that it will show why the initiative is a success or a failure. In the article points out that in the study that CLABSI reduction programs that included frontline staff in design and implementation had a higher success rate. The qualitative research will highlight the barriers of the intervention giving the researcher a way to increase the odds of success. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers. The article shows possible obstacles like the need for resources to carry out the initiative that would not show up in a quantitative research.
Dispositions gained In as much as qualitative research is not considered fully as a main part of psychological research and theory, it is still scientific (Howitt & Cramer, 2011). For an examination to be viewed as logical it ought to be substantial, solid, and ready to be summed up. In subjective research the analysts are more associated with the circumstance while leading the examination, it is more subjective and might have less opportunities to be substantial, and non-legitimate outcomes are not logical. In any case, subjective scientists have their own techniques for guaranteeing legitimacy, which is the member's approval. All together hand if the examination bodes well to members at that point there must be some legitimacy. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.
2 Quantitative and Qualitative Methodology Analysis As relates to Research, the fundamental research strategies would be quantitative and Qualitative whilst the mixed approach would be another technique that coordinates both methodologies. It is therefore of utmost importance for Nurses to evaluate literature that is apt to a subject in question and expected outcome as to be able the wisely select the best approach. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.
2 Quantitative research is a sort of research that is done on an evaluation that can be precisely and truly appraised, while Qualitative research is imperative when a detailed emphasis of the rationale motive for a fact, also a need to stimulate ideas and hypothesis for quantitative survey is desired. With qualitative research, the collection of data is based on flexible techniques, for instance: unstructured interviews and also group discussions while quantitative survey uses very highly structured and rigid techniques when collecting its data, such as pre-formulated questions. With subjective research, the accumulation of information depends on adaptable procedures, for example: unstructured meetings and furthermore gather talks while quantitative review utilizes profoundly organized and unbending strategies when gathering its information, for example, pre-defined inquiries. Subjective research is constantly exploratory and investigative while quantitative gives only a knowledge to some proposal. With subjective research, factual information examination isn't included while it is associated with quantitative. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.
Generally speaking, subjective research is great in giving definite data that gives light on a comprehension of the investigation, while quantitative research accumulates dependable data and information that can be utilized as a part of determining the root cause and outcome analysis relationship in a status quo. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.
Conclusion This paper gave an evaluation of quantitative and qualitative research studies, the paper embraces a brief account of qualitative and quantitative research method findings, the pros and cons of both research techniques portrayed, including the distinctive ways to go about choosing the Research method. This paper contains the two critiquing layouts for the two Analysis. Both quantitative and Qualitative methodologies are valuable and give credible data supported, scientific evidence based holistic values to researchable questions. choosing to utilize a quantitative or subjective research technique won't not be a simple task, particularly if the researcher is not conversant with the issues related to each. Week 4: Nursing Research for Evidence-Based Practice
Alice: Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?
The Cat: That depends a good deal on where you want to get to.
Alice: I don’t much care where. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.
The Cat: Then it doesn’t much matter which way you go.
—Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland
Effective research begins with the careful formulation of a research question. Because this question will guide the entirety of the research process, it is important for the question to be specific, answerable, meaningful, and manageable. The question, “What is the cure for cancer?” is extremely significant, but it is not specific or manageable enough to promote effective research. Conversely, the question, “Are individuals who play the violin on Fridays in March more likely to contract hepatitis?” is very specific but lacks clinical significance. In order for research to generate meaningful, precise findings, researchers must begin by carefully crafting a question. In addition, researchers must also explore ethical concerns related to the question that they select. Taking the time to craft a relevant, well-constructed question will enable the researcher to have an unambiguous focus as he or she proceeds. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

This week, you examine different models for developing a researchable question and reflect on the ethical considerations of research. You also formulate a research question using the PICOT model.

Discussion: Ethical Dimensions of Research Studies
In the best-selling book, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks (Skloot, 2010), the author highlights the true story of an African-American woman who died in 1951 from cervical cancer. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers. What makes her story unique is that prior to her death, cells from her tumor were removed and successfully grown in a petri dish. This was the first time scientists were able to successfully replicate cells outside the body, and it is estimated that billions of Lacks’ cells have been used in medical research. However, Henrietta Lacks was never asked for permission to take a sample and her family was never made aware of the widespread use of her cells. Although the culturing of her cells has been pivotal for advancing research, strong ethical concerns later arose about using these cells without patient or family approval. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

This week’s readings describe historical examples of unethical research, such as a study of syphilis among African-American men in which treatment was withheld and a study in which live cancer cells were injected into elderly patients. Today, stricter controls that seek to protect study participants are placed on researchers, but breaches still occur. Careful attention must be given toward preventing unethical behavior. In this Discussion, you explore ethical considerations and issues in research. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

In your practice as a nurse, you may use procedures and methods that did not necessarily originate in evidence, but instead were derived from informal and unwritten conventions, traditions, and observations. While these techniques may have merit, practices are constantly being updated and contradicted by information from scholarly research studies and professional guidelines. This new information serves as “evidence” for revising practices to improve outcomes across health care. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

NURS 5052/NURS 6052: ESSENTIALS OF EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE – Discussion 2
Finding Sources of Evidence

An important step in the EBP process is reviewing the current body of literature to better understand the subject or topic in which you are interested. By conducting a review of the literature, you are building foundational knowledge about the topic; later, you can use this background to build new insights. Developing a strong grasp of a topic can only be garnered by taking the time to thoroughly search for relevant information and resources. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

For this Discussion, you will practice searching the literature to find evidence on a specific topic.

To prepare:

Choose a simple search term(s) relating to a topic of your PICOT question.

Review the information on the evidence hierarchy discussed in Chapter 2 of the course text, in the article, “Facilitating Access to Pre-Processed Research Evidence in Public Health,” and in the multimedia presentation “Hierarchy of Evidence Pyramid,” found in this week’s Learning Resources. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

Review the information on the Walden Library’s website, “Levels of evidence.” Take a few minutes to explore the different types of databases available for each level of evidence and focus on the meaning of filtered and non-filtered resources. NURS 5052/NURS 6052: ESSENTIALS OF EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE ESSAY.

Conduct a literature search in the Walden Library on your selected topic using the databases that you reviewed. Use at least one database for each of the three levels of filtered information and at least one unfiltered database. Record the number of hits that you find at each level of the hierarchy of evidence. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

Select one article from the results at each level of the hierarchy. Compare the articles based on the quality and depth of information. What would be the value of each resource if you were determining an evidence-based practice?

Post a summary of your search. Describe what topic you selected, the search term(s) that you used, and the number of results found at each level of the hierarchy. Compare the types of information found in the articles from different levels and the value of the information from each level. Highlight a useful tip that you could share with your colleagues about conducting an effective literature search. NURS 5052/NURS 6052: ESSENTIALS OF EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE ESSAY.

Read a selection of your colleagues’ responses.

NURS 5052/NURS 6052: ESSENTIALS OF EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE – Discussion 3 (Grading Rubic and Media Attached)
Discussion: Theory, Research, and Evidence-Based Practice

As they explore the world around them, young children often want to know the “why” and “how” of the things they observe. This is similar to what researchers do when they approach a new problem. Researchers develop new theories or build on old ones to explain the “why” of the world around them. They use models and conceptual frameworks to help explain “how” the processes and events they observe occur. Together, theories and models provide an understanding of the world and allow researchers to explore it in meaningful ways. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

Virtually all research questions can benefit from the use of an existing theory or model. Researchers should consider their research questions and select the most suitable theory or model, which then serves as a foundation for the research design. The selection of a theory or model is an important part of the research process. NURS 5052/NURS 6052: ESSENTIALS OF EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE ESSAY.

In this Discussion, you focus on the role of theory and models in research and evidence-based practice. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

To prepare:

Review the information in Chapter 6 of the course text. Focus on the various conceptual theories and models that are currently used in nursing research.

Select one of the theories or models described that is of interest to you.

Using the Walden Library, search for and identify a research article that uses the theory or model you selected.

Reflect on how the theory or model provides structure to the research study described in the article. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

Now, think about an issue in your practice area that you would be interested in exploring through research. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

Review this week’s media presentation and consider strategies for locating and identifying a relevant theory or model for a research study.

Post a summary of the article that you located and explain how the theory or model that you selected was used in the research study. Assess the value of basing research on an established theory or model. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

Read a selection of your colleagues’ responses.

Respond to at least two of your colleagues on two different days using one or more of the following approaches:

How It Works?

How does this work?
Here is the step-by-step process:

Student posts the questions.
Tutors place their proposals with the price for the full answer.
Tutors communicating with the student.
The student chooses the tutor and reserves money for the order on the StudyDaddy account. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.
Tutors write the paper according to the student’s requirements. A tutor can post the draft or show the part of the text to the student.
Once the answer is ready, tutor posts the answer to the student.
The student gets the paper and can ask for some revision needed in the chat messages.
Satisfied student marks the order as completed and rates the tutor.
The money is loaded to the tutor’s account. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.
How do I apply to answer the question?
Look through the list of available questions in your account. Check the question details and uploaded files to decide whether you have the capacity, skills and time to complete the assignment. If you do, you may send your proposal to the student with the full price for the answer. Please, set up the reasonable price and write a cover message to tell the student more about your skills and experience in completing similar tasks. NURS 5052/NURS 6052: ESSENTIALS OF EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE ESSAY. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

After applying for the order, you can change your proposal if necessary.

When the order is in ‘Proposal sent’ status, you can communicate with the customer directly in chat and ask any questions you have regarding the order.

The student selects the tutor basing on the price and messages and accepts him to answer the question. The accepted tutor is notified by the message. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

How should I know the student have assigned me to answer the question?
Once the student accepts your proposal, you’ll get a message. All accepted proposals can be found in your account. To find the list go to My answers – In Progress.

You can start working on the paper as the student has accepted your proposal. All the money are reserved on the StudyDaddy balance and would be transferred to your balance after the order is completed. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

Can the student change the question details?Customers may change question details while the order is still on the waiting for acception status. In this case, you have to send a new proposal if you are still interested in the order. NURS 5052/NURS 6052: ESSENTIALS OF EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE ESSAY.
When should I start the work on the answer? When the customer assigns the order to you, it moves from to the In Progress section. Once the order has “Proposal accepted” status it means that you can start working on the order. You will also receive an email notification that you have been assigned to a particular order. All the money are reserved on the StudyDaddy balance and would be transferred to your balance after the order is completed. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.
When will I get paid?
After you have posted the answer, the student has a 10 days period to review the answer and ask for a revision. Once the student is satisfied with the answer, he or she completes the order and leaves the feedback on your work. NURS 5052/NURS 6052: ESSENTIALS OF EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE ESSAY.

If the student fails to review the paper, it would be completed automatically.

When the order is completed, money would be loaded to your balance.

What does the order status mean?
There are different order statuses at StudyDaddy:

Proposal sent – You have applied to answer this question. Wait to the student to accept it before start working. If the student accepts another tutor, your sent proposal would be inactive. Try to add covering message to your proposal to describe your knowledge and experience. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

Proposal accepted – The student have chosen you to answer the question and reserved money for the order. You may now start working on the paper and post the answer once it is ready. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

Answer posted. Awaiting feedback – You have posted an answer. The student may ask for a small revision.

Answer posted. Waiting for payment – You have posted an answer without sending the proposal or chatting with a student. Once the student purchase you answer the order would be completed.

Answer purchased – The order is completed and the money was loaded to your balance. No further action on this order required.

Can I contact the student before sending a proposal?
No, you need to send your proposed price to apply the question and begin communication. You may edit your proposal later if needed.

Why I can’t see the option to send a proposal or post an answer to the question?

If the student already assigned other tutor to answer this question, you will be unable to post your answer or sent a proposal. Look for new questions to answer. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

Can I edit my proposal?Yes, you can edit your proposal before the student has accepted it. You can change the price and add a new cover message to your proposal. Once the student accepts the proposal, you’ll be unable to change it. v.
Can I add some details to my answer after its purchase? If you realized that the answer that was purchased lacks important details, you can make changes and add the missing pieces of information. The customer will see all the changes made to the answer after he/she bought it. In order to modify an answer, find “edit” near your answer on the question page. Please note that you can also attach files whenever you feel it is necessary.

Based on this evidence, you can formulate a question. In this Discussion, you consider the use of evidence-based practice in your own organization and formulate a question that you will need to answer for your portfolio project. This is called a PICOT question. You will also investigate strategies for overcoming barriers to implementing evidence-based practice (EBP). NURS 5052/NURS 6052: ESSENTIALS OF EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE ESSAY.

To prepare:

Consider a recent clinical experience in which you were providing care for a patient.

Determine the extent to which the care that you provided was based on evidence and research findings or supported only by your organization’s standard procedures. How do you know if the tasks were based on research? NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

What questions have you thought about in a particular area of care such as a procedure or policy?

Review Chapter 2, pages 31–34 on “Asking Well worded Clinical Questions” in Polit & Beck and consult the resource from the Walden Student Center for Success: Clinical Question Anatomy & examples of PICOT questions (found in this week’s Learning Resources). Formulate your background questions and PICOT question. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

Reflect on the barriers that might inhibit the implementation of evidence-based practice in your clinical environment.

Review the article “Adopting Evidence-Based Practice in Clinical Decision Making” in this week’s Learning Resources. Select one of the barriers described that is evident in your organization and formulate a plan for overcoming this barrier. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

Post an evaluation of the use, or lack thereof, of EBP in a recent clinical experience. Identify which aspects of the care delivered, if any, were based on evidence and provide your rationale. NURS 5052/NURS 6052: ESSENTIALS OF EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE ESSAY. List your background questions and PICOT question about this nursing topic. Critique how the policies, procedures, and culture in your organization may hinder or support the adoption of evidence-based practices. Identify the barrier you selected from the article and explain how this barrier could be overcome within your organization. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

Respond to at least two of your colleagues on two different days using one or more of the following approaches:

Ask a probing question, substantiated with additional background information, and evidence.

Share an insight from having read your colleagues’ postings, synthesizing the information to provide new perspectives.

Validate an idea with your own experience and additional sources.

Make a suggestion based on additional evidence drawn from readings or after synthesizing multiple postings. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

Expand on your colleagues’ postings by providing additional strategies for addressing barriers to EBP based on readings and evidence.

NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

Read a selection of your colleagues’ responses.

Respond to at least two of your colleagues on two different days using one or more of the following approaches:

Share an insight from having read your colleagues’ postings, synthesizing the information to provide new perspectives.

Validate an idea with your own experience and additional sources.

Make a suggestion based on additional evidence drawn from readings, or after synthesizing multiple postings. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

Now, think about an issue in your practice area that you would be interested in exploring through research. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

Review this week’s media presentation and consider strategies for locating and identifying a relevant theory or model for a research study. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

Post a summary of the article that you located and explain how the theory or model that you selected was used in the research study. Assess the value of basing research on an established theory or model.

Read a selection of your colleagues’ responses.

Respond to at least two of your colleagues on two different days using one or more of the following approaches:

Ask a probing question, substantiated with additional background information, and evidence. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

Share an insight from having read your colleagues’ postings, synthesizing the information to provide new perspectives.

How It Works?

How does this work?
Here is the step-by-step process:

Student posts the questions.
Tutors place their proposals with the price for the full answer.
Tutors communicating with the student.
The student chooses the tutor and reserves money for the order on the StudyDaddy account.
Tutors write the paper according to the student’s requirements. A tutor can post the draft or show the part of the text to the student.
Once the answer is ready, tutor posts the answer to the student.
The student gets the paper and can ask for some revision needed in the chat messages. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.
Satisfied student marks the order as completed and rates the tutor.
The money is loaded to the tutor’s account.

NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

The student selects the tutor basing on the price and messages and accepts him to answer the question. The accepted tutor is notified by the message.

Answer posted. Awaiting feedback – You have posted an answer. The student may ask for a small revision. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

NURS 5052/NURS 6052: ESSENTIALS OF EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE – Assignment Week 7 (Grading Rubic and Media Attached)

Assignment: Critiquing Quantitative, Qualitative, or Mixed Methods Studies

Critiquing the validity and robustness of research featured in journal articles provides a critical foundation for engaging in evidence-based practice. In Weeks 5 and
6, you explored quantitative research designs. In Week 7, you will examine qualitative and mixed methods research designs. For this Assignment, which is due by Day 7
of Week 7, you critique a quantitative and either a qualitative or a mixed methods research study and compare the types of information obtained in each. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

To prepare:

Select a health topic of interest to you that is relevant to your current area of practice. The topic may be your Course Portfolio Project or a different topic of your
choice.
Using the Walden Library, locate two articles in scholarly journals that deal with your portfolio topic: 1) Select one article that utilizes a quantitative research
design and 2) select a second article that utilizes either a qualitative OR a mixed methods design. These need to be single studies not systematic or integrative
reviews (including meta-analysis and metasynthesis). You may use research articles from your reference list. If you cannot find these two types of research on your
portfolio topic, you may choose another topic.
Locate the following documents in this week’s Learning Resources to access the appropriate templates, which will guide your critique of each article: NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.
Critique Template for a Qualitative Study
Critique Template for a Quantitative Study
Critique Template for a Mixed-Methods Study
Consider the fields in the templates as you review the information in each article. Begin to draft a paper in which you analyze the two research approaches as
indicated below. Reflect on the overall value of both quantitative and qualitative research. If someone were to say to you, “Qualitative research is not real science,”
how would you respond?

To complete this Assignment:

Complete the two critiques using the appropriate templates.
Write a 2- to 3-page paper that addresses the following:
Contrast the types of information that you gained from examining the two different research approaches in the articles that you selected. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.
Describe the general advantages and disadvantages of the two research approaches featured in the articles. Use examples from the articles for support.
Formulate a response to the claim that qualitative research is not real science. Highlight the general insights that both quantitative and qualitative studies can
provide to researchers. Support your response with references to the Learning Resources and other credible sources. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

As you complete this Assignment, remember to:
Submit your paper to Grammarly and SafeAssign through the Walden Writing Center. Based on the Grammarly and SafeAssign reports, revise your paper as necessary.
Reminder: The School of Nursing requires that all papers submitted include a title page, introduction, summary, and references. The School of Nursing Sample Paper
provided at the Walden Writing Center provides an example of those required elements (available from the Walden University website found in this week’s Learning
Resources). All papers submitted must use this formatting.
Combine all three parts of this assignment into one Word document including both critique templates and the narrative with your references. Submit this combined
document.

This is the final paper of a 3 part assignment. The instructions below describe what is needed to conclude this assignment. I have included the previous two papers needed to complete this assignment. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.
In Part 3 of the Course Project, you consider how the evidence you gathered during Part 2 can be translated into nursing practice.
To complete:
In a 3- to 4-page paper:
Restate your PICOT question and its significance to nursing practice.
Summarize the findings from the articles you selected for your literature review. Describe at least one nursing practice that is supported by the evidence in the articles. Justify your response with specific references to at least 2 of the articles. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.
Explain how the evidence-based practice that you identified contributes to better outcomes. In addition, identify potential negative outcomes that could result from failing to use the evidence-based practice. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.
By Day 7 of Week 10
This part of the Course Project is due. It should be combined with the other two components of the Course Project and turned in as your Portfolio Assignment for this course.
Note: In addition, include a 1-page summary of your project. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

Locate a minimum of 15 peer-reviewed articles that describe the problem or issue and that support the proposed solution. Eight of the 15 articles must be research-based (e.g., a study which is qualitative, quantitative, descriptive, or longitudinal).
Preview each of the 15 articles chosen by reading the article abstracts and summaries. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.
Hint: Article abstracts and summaries provide a concise description of the topic, research outcomes, and significance of findings.
Perform a rapid appraisal of each article by answering the following questions (one to two sentences are sufficient to answer each question):
1) How does each article describe the nature of the problem, issue, or deficit you have identified?
2) Does each article provide statistical information to demonstrate the gravity of the issue, problem, or deficit?
3) Example(s): morbidity, mortality, rate of incidence or rate of occurrence in the general population.
4) Does each article support your proposed change?
below is the general overview of the topic and intended outcome of research paper.
Recruitment and Turnover of New Graduate Nurses. Managerial Preventive Approach. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.
The turnover of new graduate nurses to stay in their first job has been a problem for nursing managers to deal with. It’s very unfortunate some new graduate nurses even leave the professional after first job experience. The probability of new graduate nurses staying at their first job within the first, second and third year is, 0.823, 0.666, 0.537 respectively. (Cho, et al, 2012). This problem has many contributory factors such as, dissatisfaction in interpersonal relationship, work content, physical work environment, lack of support, pr0fessional growth opportunities, bullying and among others. (Cho, et al, 2012). Working as a PDN at the correctional facility, staying away from the prison for a month on my return will see new faces. This has been a routine in the nursing staffing at the prison. Others leave the profession for good after quitting, whiles others look to work in other health care facilities. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers. The problem is not limited to only correctional facilities, but all health care facilities across the country. Nurses are already in shortage. The shortage has a direct effect on the quality of care rendered to our patients since over tasking lead to nurse stress and nurse burn out which eventually has a negative tow on the care rendered resulting in minor errors such as medication errors and others. For these reasons, the need to keep the emerging nurses in the profession, I believe should be the outmost priority of every nurse manager or leader in the profession. The author writes to bring to the notice that, the resolution of these problem could be improved by nurse managers and nurse leaders. Holding training for the senior nurses on mentoring new graduates, use of assertive communication, constructive criticism, supporting new graduates on the job field, creating room for professional growth through furthering education and constant training. Building the confidence of the nurse rather than constant criticism could go a long way to help the nurses stay in the profession. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.
I HAVE ATTACHED ALL THE 15 ARTICLES.
PLEASE PERFORM THE APPRAISAL ON EACH ARTICLE IN REFERENCE TO THE TO THE TOPIC AND QUESTIONS PROVIDED ABOVE.
ONE TO THREE SENTENCES ON EACH QUESTION WILL BE OK IN COMPLETING THE ASSIGNMENT.
please let me know of any questions on the research project.
Assignment should not necessarily be 5 page. could be four or less but of good quality, reflecting the topic and overview of the topic as inscribed above.
I will attach a word document from the school. please use this document for the assignment. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

The purpose of this assignment is to explore the Healthy People 2020 initiatives from the United States Department of Health and Human Services related to the topic of substance abuse, and identify how a professional in your role may contribute to the objectives. Your topic must be substantially different from any topic you chose for your other papers. Review and expand on class materials and the relevant literature for evidence to describe the problem and strategies currently implemented and under investigation to reduce the problem or meet the objective. Include data relative to incidence, prevalence, and effects in your description of the problem. Describe the role your discipline (career) plays in achievement of this objective, discussing primary, secondary, and tertiary interventions. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

Use your reading assignments and Shimberg Library to support the debate points and prepare your paper in 1200 words, using a minimum of 5 peer reviewed references. Keep in mind that a paper in APA format prohibits the use of personal pronouns (I, you, we, us, me, etc). Do not use quotations. Data collection is an important part of both quantitative and qualitative research. Although the actual approach to gathering information may vary, for either research design, researchers need to plan in advance how the data will be gathered, reported, and stored, and they need to ensure that their methods are both reliable and valid. As nurses review research when considering a new evidence-based practice, it is important to be familiar with sound collection practices in order to ascertain the credibility of the data presented. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

Consider the following scenario:

Nurses and other health care professionals are often interested in assessing patient satisfaction with health care services. Imagine that you are a nurse working in a suburban primary care setting that serves 10,000 patients annually. Your organization is very interested in understanding the patient’s point of view to help determine areas of care that can be improved. With this focus in mind, consider how you would create a survey to assess patient satisfaction with the services your organization provides. You may wish to consider variables such as the ease of accessing care, patient wait time, friendliness of the staff, or the likelihood that a patient would recommend your organization to others. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

For this Discussion, you generate questions and an overall plan for data collection that would be appropriate for a patient satisfaction survey in relation to the above scenario.

To prepare:

Consider the guidelines for generating questions presented in this week’s Learning Resources.

Review the scenario and formulate at least five questions that you could use to evaluate patient satisfaction. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

Reflect on the different methods or instruments that can be used for gathering data described in Chapter 13 and Chapter 23 of the course text.

Which methods or instruments would work well for the scenario? Determine an appropriate sample size for the scenario.

Post the questions that you created for gathering information about patient satisfaction based on the above scenario. Explain which method or instrument you would use to gather data. Describe the sample size appropriate for the population and how you would select participants. Provide a rationale for your choices, and explain how you can ensure high standard of reliability and validity. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

Read a selection of your colleagues’ responses.

Respond to at least two of your colleagues on two different days using one or more of the following approaches:

Ask a probing question, substantiated with additional background information, and evidence.

Share an insight from having read your colleagues’ postings, synthesizing the information to provide new perspectives.

Offer and support an alternative perspective using readings from the classroom or from your own review of the literature in the Walden Library. NURS 5052 - Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice Study Papers.

Validate an idea with your own experience and additional sources.
